Mr. Pete Wittner, teacher of Physical Education and Health, the 2018 - 2019 Morris Hills High School Outstanding Educator, is referred to by his colleagues as “a man of integrity and has left a legacy of inspiring students and athletes to reach for the stars at Morris Hills High School.” Mr. Wittner truly has a sincere devotion to education, to athletics, and to his students. He approaches each day and everything he does with a fresh attitude - teaching, coaching, leading, inspiring, and guiding all students and athletes.
Mr. Wittner brings a high level of professional commitment to his work each day. He is knowledgeable, well-prepared, and creative in his classroom presentations. Additionally, Mr. Wittner always brings a genuine enthusiasm to his classes. His commitment to his students and their overall growth and development guides Mr. Wittner’s daily planning and teaching. His spirit encourages students to grapple with ideas, to take risks, and to be creative. His classes are lively, interactive, and exciting. His hands-on approach to learning makes for a stimulating and enriching classroom environment.
Mr. Wittner arrives at school each day with a positive outlook. He carries his energy into his classroom where his enthusiasm and love of teaching takes his students to new heights. He always goes the extra mile. Always reassuring, kind, and supportive, Mr. Wittner makes you feel like you are the most important person in the world.
Mr. Wittner carefully plans for the varied student population at Morris Hills High School, taking into consideration the different levels of ability of his students. Mr. Wittner is equally effective with all students, consistently managing to motivate students to exceed their past performances. His lessons are goal-driven and creative; they reflect sound pedagogical reasoning, as well as imaginative strategies for engaging students and making learning an enjoyable experience. In addition, he possesses that rare gift of commanding respect, not based on his position of authority, but on his fair and consistent enforcement of discipline and his students’ unwavering belief in his genuine caring.
Within a context of challenging and enriching course work, Mr. Wittner has the magic to create a personal comfort zone in which students can always be themselves. He generates a thirst to learn and an invitation to go well beyond course content to develop an understanding of life and the human condition. His educational commitment goes well beyond the classroom. He cares for his students as young people, growing not only academically and athletically, but also emotionally and socially.
Mr. Wittner’s commitment to Morris Hills High School is tremendous. He spends countless hours of his time working with students, often time putting his own personal needs on hold. His dedication to the overall educational program goes well beyond the halls of Morris Hills High School. Mr. Wittner is a contributor to the total school program at Morris Hills High School. He serves as a long-standing cross country coach and boys’ basketball coach. He has become a tremendous asset to the overall culture of Morris Hills High School, attending school-wide events supporting students and colleagues.
Mr. Wittner is trustworthy, reliable, ethical, visible, and approachable. He is a true gentleman. A supportive and dedicated colleague, Mr. Wittner is always willing to help another colleague in need. As a truly dedicated, enthusiastic, and cooperative member of the Morris Hills High School faculty, Mr. Wittner has developed a positive and mutually respectful rapport with students, athletes, parents, faculty, and administration. He is a vibrant, creative educator.
When not at Morris Hills High School, Mr. Wittner is a loving father to his two children, Alexander a senior at the University of Kentucky and Jamie a sophomore at UCLA, and a devoted husband to his wife, Susan.

Mr. Mark Hilla, Athletic Trainer, the 2018 - 2019 Morris Hills High School Outstanding Educational Services Professional, is referred to by his colleagues as “a very visible and dedicated member of the Morris Hills High School staff and takes an active interest in the lives of each of his students and athletes.” Another colleague states: “Mr. Hilla has made contributions to the Morris Hills High School community that go far above and beyond the scope of his primary role in the Athletic Department.” Mr. Hilla truly has a sincere commitment to Morris Hills High School and to all students and athletes.
Mr. Hilla, a proud Morris Hills High School Scarlet Knight alumnus, has immersed himself in the total school community. He is valued and trusted by all members of the Morris Hills High School community – students, parents, teachers, coaches, and administrators. He is consistently counted on for outstanding medical service to all our student-athletes. Mr. Hilla puts in countless hours on game coverage and rehabilitation and often works overtime to make ensure that students’ needs are being met. Mr. Hilla displays an incredible amount of passion and a refreshing viewpoint as he faces the many challenges found in being an athletic trainer. He is trustworthy, reliable, ethical, visible, approachable, and as a result of his efforts, is highly respected by students, athletes, colleagues, and administrators. A supportive and dedicated colleague, Mr. Hilla is always willing to help another colleague in need.
Additionally, Mr. Hilla has taken a great deal of initiative in enhancing his own professional growth and knowledge. He has attended numerous NJSIAA/NATA presentations or seminars presented by local medical groups. Furthermore, Mr. Hilla gives back to his athletic training profession by molding aspiring athletic trainers in the Gifted and Talented Program here at Morris Hills High School and at local colleges and universities.
Mr. Hilla is meticulous with record-keeping and maintains a comprehensive injury log of all student-athletes. Utilizing this log, Mr. Hilla extrapolates data and prepares seasonal injury reports that allow him to analyze injury trends and address the professional development needs accordingly of all coaching staffs at Morris Hills High School. Furthermore, Mr. Hilla stays abreast of the legal guidelines related to school health and athletic training and annually develops Emergency Action Plans for all athletic facilities on and off the Morris Hills High School campus. Mr. Hilla is the main architect behind Impact Test testing of all athletes at Morris Hills High School and is one of the main architects behind Morris Hill High School being compliant with regard to Janet’s Law and epi-pen compliance.
Mr. Hilla is an active member of the Wellness Committee at Morris Hills High School. He brings his expertise and knowledge to the committee by making sound recommendations to improve the overall wellness and health of all members of the Morris Hills High School community. Additionally, Mr. Hilla serves as a presenter for the Staff Development Program in the Morris Hills Regional District by training teachers, coaches, and administrators in CPR. Finally, Mr. Hilla serves as the “resident doctor” for all Morris Hills High School faculty members.
A Scarlet Knight forever, he is a strong supporter of all Morris Hills High School student events and activities. He can be found at numerous extra-curricular and athletic events supporting students. When not at Morris Hills High School, Mr. Hilla is a devoted husband to his wife, Kara, a teacher of Mathematics at Morris Hills High School.
