Home Wifi Options for Students

Option 1:  Optimum Wifi on District Issued Chromebook

Altice Business is partnering with school districts in our service area to offer its Student WiFi product at no cost for 60 days. Altice Business Student WiFi provides students who have school-issued devices the ability to use the Optimum WiFi Hot Spot Network to access their school’s network and resources from home if they do not have dedicated Internet access.  If you have a district-issued device and can see "optimumwifi" in your available wireless networks, MHRD would be able to have you added to Optimum's student WiFi.  Please inform your teacher, counselor, or contact

Option 2: Altice Advantage

In order to help students stay connected, we are offering Altice Advantage broadband free for 60 days to any new household in our service area with K-12 and/or college students who may be displaced due to school closures and who do not currently have home internet access. Click here for additional information about Altice Advantage Internet.

Option 3: Optimum Wifi Hotspot

Altice/Optimum has opened up their Emergency Optimum WiFi outdoor hotspots for public use to non-subscribers. To find an Emergency Hotspot, click here.   To join, in the Wi-Fi settings on your device, select the "optimumwifi-Emergency" network name and follow the prompts to log in.

Option 4: Using your mobile phone as a Hotspot

In addition, some wireless carriers have special COVID plans/coverage.  For example, T-Mobile and Sprint are providing customers unlimited data during the pandemic without requiring them to contact customer service. T-Mobile announced on March 13 that it is upgrading all customers on limited plans to unlimited smartphone data (excluding roaming) for 60 days. Sprint, which is being acquired by T-Mobile, announced the same day that it is doing the same.  Be sure to check with your carrier PRIOR to going over your data limits.
Please read the FCC's "Keep Americans Connected Pledge" for the official govenment response to keep students and families connected during this time.
