State Testing 2025-2026
This year's state-mandated assessments include the following:
- NJSLA-Adaptive and NJGPA-Adaptive Field Tests: These are state-mandated field tests taken by students in Grades 9-12 in November 2025 so that the NJDOE can test items that will be used in the new state tests that will be operational in March and May 2026. Students and school districts will not receive any results.
- NJSLA-Adaptive: The NJSLA-A will be offered to students in ELA (Grade 9), Math (Grade 9 students enrolled in Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra 2 and any student in Grades 10-12 who has not met their math testing requirement)) in May 2026. These assessments measure the attainment of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in specific content areas. These are new adaptive assessments and will not be comparable to previous versions of the NJSLA. Additional information will be shared with parents as the district receives it from NJDOE.
- NJ Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA)-Adaptive: The NJGPA-A is the state graduation assessment based on the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. As per state rules, students who do not take the NJGPA-A will be unable to earn a high school diploma. This is a new adaptive assessment and will not be comparable to previous versions of the NJGPA. Additional information will be shared with parents as the district receives it from NJDOE. Students who take the NJGPA-A but do not earn a passing score will be able to use substitute competency assessments to meet the state testing requirements for graduation. Students with disabilities who qualify for the Dynamic Learning Maps assessment (DLM) are exempt from taking the NJGPA-A. The NJGPA-A for the Class of 2027 is scheduled for March 16-20, 2026.
- NJSLA-Science: The NJSLA-S in science is administered by state code to all Grade 11 students. This year's NJSLA in Science will be administered in May 2026. Please note this test is not adaptive.
The district's testing calendar for 2025-2026 can be found
here.
If you have any questions about either the assessments or accommodations for students with disabilities, please contact your child's school counselor or case manager. Please note that the district is required to administer NJ state assessments to all eligible students. Students who are exempt from taking NJ State Assessments through their IEP will be given the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) assessment in lieu of NJ State Assessments. Students exempt from passing NJ State Assessments through their IEP must still take the assessments.
