Admission Information for In-District Applicants.  (Out-of-District Choice applicants should click here.)
  • Admission to the Magnet Program is competitive.
  • In-district students are given priority in the admissions process.
  • After qualified in-district students have been admitted, the remaining seats will be offered to qualified out-of-district choice candidates.
  • The admissions criteria for in-district and choice candidates are identical.
  • All applications are reviewed by a district-wide Admissions Committee.
  • Complete all required information and then submit the online application. 
  • Supporting documentation and recommendations should be sent electronically from your current school via the application process.  The district is no longer accepting paper forms.

Admissions Deadlines for Fall 2027 Entry
 
  1. Complete the MHRD Online Application and submit, along with a copy of your IEP, ISP,  or 504 plan (if applicable) by November 24, 2026.  
  2. Submit Magnet supplemental materials and records by November 24th. (These forms will be submitted electronically.)
  3. Admissions testing for the Magnet Program will take place at Morris Hills High School on your selected test date.  (You will be able to choose a test date when you apply.  All test dates are available on a first-come, first-served basis.) Applicants can submit the application without completing the recommendation section; the recommendation section can be submitted separately if needed.
  4. Decisions will be emailed out by December 21st.
The Magnet Program
The Math and Science Magnet Program is a four-year honors program that provides a challenging and focused math/science course sequence where students will invent, design, and conduct original research projects that will yield a cumulative and sound argument. Students will pick an area of specialization as well as free electives from a broad range of other disciplines. The Research Based Analysis/AP Capstone course sequence will allow students the opportunity to work with experts in the field while pursuing their individual areas of interest in applied mathematics and science. Students from any of the four sending districts may apply to become Magnet students at Morris Hills High School in their 8th-grade year. Out-of-district students may also be admitted to the Magnet Program through School Choice.  Students will participate in a competitive admissions process.

Information Sessions for Students Entering in the 2027-2028 School Year:
 
The district will host two in-person information sessions this fall:
 
  • Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 7 PM in the Morris Knolls High School Auditorium (50 Knoll Drive, Rockaway, NJ)  
  • Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 7 PM in the Morris Hills High School Auditorium (520 West Main Street, Rockaway, NJ)   
Both sessions are identical. We strongly encourage interested students and families to attend an information session.  If you are unable to attend, presentations will be posted online after the last information session.
